You figure out something you've been trying to work on and been getting nowhere? lol, if that didn't make sense, read on!
My TB gelding NEVER squares up when we do a center line halt. (ok, actually never) He is always square up front, and COMPLETELY off in the hind, having one leg forward. I've tried EVERYTHING, I sit up as tall as my vertabre will possibly go, squeeze my legs, build a wall with my hands, etc. etc, everything you're supposed to do. no dice. So I tried so many variations as I could. (Just so oyu know, he does work round, so he is round and on the bit as we go into the halt, but it never worked!)
So yesterday, we were having a NICE ride, you know the feeling, forward and round, responsive quick to the aids, etc. and I decided to try my halts. I've been working a LOT on bending, lately, so When I asked for my halt, I had a slight left bend. BOOM! It's square. I thought it was one of those chance things, so I move him on and ask again, with a slight bend again...SQUARE! So I do this again and again, always getting a square halt or something VERY close, both reins! I was so happy, I almost cried! Now I know the secret, I can work on teaching him to square constantly, then have a straight head and square for when our season starts in may!
I love whne things go right, it makes you more confident and want to ride more and more!
