Horse Shipping/Moving... what do I need to do?

    Hi all,

Looks like my husband and I will be making a move south to SC. Of course our horses are coming with us. So, what do we need to do to ship them? We do not have a trailer as of now so they will be shipped. Any good companies I should look at?

Also, I know I need health certs (right?). Is there anything else special I need to do? Obviously they are up to date on vaccs and Coggins tests...

Any experiencve with this or advice appreciated!

    Thanks!

Many people have sighed for the 'good old days' and regretted the 'passing of the horse,' but today, when only those who like horses own them, it is a far better time for horses. ~C.W. Anderson

Hi!  Good luck with the move!  Where in SC are you going?  I lived there for 21 years.  Big Smile

I shipped my mare from SC to Texas & used Equine Express.  They were great!

If I remember right..... I think the health certificate has to be done 30 days before you ship them, and no longer.  Other than that I don't recall anything special & everything went smoothly!!!

We are looking in the Clover/ Fort Mill/York area.

Thanks for the advice! I'll check them out.

I can recomend two haulers to check out, both were EXCELLENT and had great communication.

Hauled Wright, http://www.hauledright.com/ hauled two minis from CA to Az

and Joe Stark, http://www.starkhavenfarms.com/ hauled my haffy/welsh from SC to Az

As was said, you need the health cert within 30 days of transport, and you need a current coggins.

Your vet will give you the health certs for moving once you let him know the date.

Your vet is also the best person to tell you what shots he recommends for the AREA of SC you are moving to.

If he's not sure, he will call a vet in that area or at least he better, since that's how my vet did when I moved my horses from PA to SoCal, and likewise the SoCal vet did when I moved them from SoCal to TN.

I am of no help regarding shippers, because I trucked my horses myself.

Good luck and good fortune in your move! Big Smile
