That story is funny and sad. It's a shame that the last one had to be shot. I guess he knew where he was going and just didn't want to end up slaughtered. Unfortunately, he ended up like that anyway. hey, you can't blame a cow for trying.

Hey, let's take prey animals in an unfamiliar place and CHASE them!!! that'll make them wanto to get into a trailer!!! I too saw it on the news as it happened 45 mins from my house. As a person that shows cattle and has been around them my whole life I was disgusted by it. Farmer get run over by their livestock every day, it's a fact of life but because it charged a cop they shot it. hey here's an idea, give it a little room so it won't feel threatened enough to want to charge in the first place. City Slickers!!

I especially was surprised when circling it and staring right at it like a pack of starving wolves didn't work , and to me that whole traffic directions thing should have been effective. I live in Saskatchewan and the news people were quite verbal here about their disgust too.

How weird. Those must have been some seriously confused cows. Although I'm a little confused why people in the area were upset that the cow was shot when it was going to the slaughterhouse anyway?

I'm also confused.. Plus, it seems to me that the police were just doing their jobs. If someone was in danger of being run over and seriously injured by an uncontrollable cow, I would expect them to take action. I would expect the same thing if it were an uncontrollable horse. That's just me, I suppose.

Okay, that was weird...I feel bad for the cow that was shot. He probably only charged because he was stressed and he wasn't sure what was going on. That was so dumb when the police officer started actually signaling to the cow to move like he was a car!!!!!!!

I am just saying, after watching the video it was fairly appearant that some people in this country only see animals larger than a dog on tv or their dinner plate. I am absolutely not saying they didn't do their best. Just that there is an ever increasing difference between urbanized people and me :)

I just got back from lunch and there were 2 cows running out and about. They had them baricaded into location with tall fences, and were trying to get them into a trailer with a 6' opening. They didnt even have the stock trailer doors completely open.. Ugh.. I should stepped in and showed them how to do it! :) They were also using a bobcat to "chase" them in... ugh..

Yes, yes, I will totally agree on that! In my profession you hear all kinds of crazy things the "city folks" attempt to do. On of my favourites from when I lived in TX was the ranger who encountered some folks gathering vegetation in the woods in the fall to decorate their Thanksgiving table. Now TX doesn't have much in the way of seasons, so they were all excited, having found some lovely leaves that had changed to rich reds and oranges, and they were hurriedly filling the trunk of their car with their booty.
This is a true story, I swear!
What were they gathering?? Oh yes, POISON IVY!

I volunteer with children (6yrs - 21yrs) a lot and you would be surprized how many of them don't know what ground beef is or where that chicken on the table came from. My niece had to call my mother and ask how to cut up a whole chicken. A friend of mine at church asked my mother how to plant a garden, because she has never raised anything to eat before.
I'm afraid there are going to be a lot of people going hungry if things get bad.

Re: What I mean when I say "city people "
As a "city person" I think its a little unfair to judge because of a little ignorance of farm life. Sure, I might not know how a chicken is slaughtered, or how to grow my own food, but you'd be surprised how many "farmers" don't know the first thing about how a business works, or how to do their own accounting, or how to work with people in general from a customer service prospective (after all, farmers do run a business). My point is, there is place for city people and a place for farmers. Each has his own expertise that is invaluable to the sustainability and advancement of our economy.
Sorry, I just felt compelled to throw that out there. :)

You obviously don't know anything about farmers. Last time I checked farmers run their own business 24 hours a day 7 days a week, they have good people skills and generaly get along with everyone, they do know how to do their own accounting.
people from the city don't get what it takes to be a farmer or what goes into growing their food, they just take for granted that there will always be food in the grocery store. City people should spend a day with a farmer before saying they can't, they don't, their to stupid ect ect. Farmer knows more then you might think. maybe you should learn about where your food comes from instead of criticizing farmers with your mouth full!!
