MARE ... PRETTY... and she does all 3 of my interests...

I found a younger...but not to young mare who does Halter, Western, and English.

Well...let me just get to it... First is the description I got from her owner and then pictures...

She is offered for sale at $6500

""""Zoe is extremely well trained, but she is fairly young.  She's sort of got a couple years show experience under her belt, but not consistent years... a few months this season and then a few months the next.  Sarah did show her walk/trot last year, and she did great, BUT she's not a "kid's horse".  This means that is she's in a home that can keep the mare tuned and going, she'd do pretty good, but the mare is not consistent enough with one hand/rein to be a solid kids horse yet.  Now, for me, because I trained her, I can make her do a lot without much rein at all because I've trained her off my legs quite a bit.  Sarah wasn't the least bit interested in mastering that, so they had some interesting times in the line up!  HA HA  Nonetheless, she won every class she entered walk trot.

This mare has an extremely slow jog, and a even slower lope (most of the time).  She's easy to train as she has huge retentive qualities.  She's good to open gates off of, she'll shoulder in or haunches in, she'll sidepass, she'll pivot off the hind end, or pivot around the front end.  She's a very consistent mare in her leads, lead departures, and flying changes.  BUT.. she's a quirky mare too, and every once in awhile she forgets she's ever been bridled!  She's also a walking vet bill, as she is inquisitive and instead of putting her NOSE on it, she puts her FEET on it, resulting in a new addition to my vet's house!  I do not think we have invested in any vet bills this year, at least no stitches.... (heavy sigh)   She's been a great mom this year too (so she's not been used much). """"

She is a beautiful horse. I like her but I'm worried about the fact she is "a walking vet bill".

She looks like an extremely pretty mare with tons of potential.  What I see from her ad however...

    1) you will HAVE to keep her at a trainer's, period.
This means that is she's in a home that can keep the mare tuned and going, she'd do pretty good

    2) She may be too much for you to handle.  Reiterate above: You will have to keep her at a trainer's, period.
she's a quirky mare too, and every once in awhile she forgets she's ever been bridled!

    3) You may find you spend more time treating wounds and paying vet bills than actually riding the horse.  That someone would admit to a potential buyer that their horse is a "walking vet bill" means they are REALLY accident prone or the owner doesn't know how to keep their humor in check when responding to potential buyers.

Frankly she sounds like too much horse for you; unless you are willing to keep her at a trainer's and take regular lessons.  Like I said, tons of potential, cute, but young, green and apparently has MAJOR brain farts (just what does she do when she "forgets she's ever been bridled"?  Sounds like a dangerous mix for an inexperienced owner.  Great one minute, brainless the next?).

If you can keep her in training and are serious about showing APHA go look at her.  If you can't/won't keep her in training and yourself in regular lessons she's not the horse for you.

How's Soldier?  Gelded and getting turnout I hope?

Yeah, the walking vet bill is definatly what caught me. Im really sure why she'd be soo honest...i suppose its good though.

I do like her very much, and possibly I really could get her to a trainers for awhile and she'd come along very very well. Things have been so much better lately, money issues have gotten so much lighter and ... that leads me to Soldier.

He's doing so well! He is look AMAZING to! Shedding out a stunning golden color and he's got to be THE CUTEST!! I have a friend working with him now...he's changed a bunch and now is paying attention and I dont have to send him to a pricey trainer. Such a smart boy to. And, he has gotten gelded and is on pasture! I'm going to get some pictures up here soon!!

That's GREAT to hear that he's doing better now that he's gelded!  Good for you both.

I've had a walking vet bill before (well, not too bad, but he had a couple of major incidents); it's not too much fun and can get really frustrating when you are trying to form a bond in the saddle and get yourselves ready to compete.

It seems that the "nicer" (ie: more expensive and more talented) the horse the more often they hurt themselves in my experiences.

I'd at least ask her to clarify this.  If she's cutting herself on poorly maintained pasture fencing or is getting beat up on because she's "low man on totum pole" that's stuff you can address (though it might be annoying depending).  If she constantly injures herself even in well maintained areas or is sickly (colics all the time, etc) that's a bit different.

I, too, see a lot of red flags... but I will say, she's better than other horses you've posted about. Glad Soldier is finally gelded and gets turnout.

THis could mean a lot of different things as QHAA said.

    1.  have you seen this mare in person?  If not the you can't "like her very much" just from a picture and description.

    2. you don't know that taking her to a trainers for awhile would... "she'd come along very very well".

    3.  "Money issues have gotten so much lighter".  You can find much better horses for much less and unless you have the money in the bank for her potential "walking vet bill" habit, DO NOT get her.  (I'm talking multiple thousands of dollars banked to cover vet bills.

IF he's doing so darn well why do you need another horse.  Get him going good and show him.  His "doing so well" is probably because he's finally gelded, gets turned out to be a real horse, doesn't have the hormones running through him which makes him much easier to handle.

I don't understand your burning desire to get a thrid horse to show when it sounds like you have two perfectly good candidates at home already.

Just because the seller is asking WAY TO MUCH MONEY for that mare does NOT means she's worth it.

and what was the comment at the end of her ad saying something about "being a good mom".  I'm guessing they've bred her?
