    A little about me--considering I'm new(;

    Hey there!  My name is Breanna.  I am a year older than my horse, Dakota Rain.  Dakota is a grulla and white tobiano paint.  She has lots of spunk and there have only been a few times where that hasn't come in handy.  My mom claims that the horse has my personality:  aims to please, a little bossy at times, concieted (haha), and just all together happy.  Dakota knows how to push my buttons, and over the past 4 years I've had her, she has succeeded quite a number of times.  She used to be a jumper, and I used to show hunt seat equitation with her.  Though I loved it, I felt that I could accomplish more with her in a different area so I no longer show her.  I ride on a drill team.  For those of you who don't know what that is, our ten cowgirl team makes up a pattern to music and carry flags.  I think I have way too much fun with that and I absoulutley adore my team memebers.  I am only fourteen, but the drill master for the youth and adult team decided that I might find the adult team more of a challenge so I moved up from my current position on the youth team.  My drill master was very correct...it is quite a challene(:  Dakota is a little scared of the flag right now, but a little bit of the "Friendly Game" will help.  She knows the seven games, and the seven games help her a lot.  At horse shows, she can act out, but Parelli helps(:

    My family isn't exactly loaded with cash, so everything I get, I either earn the money my self....or earn the money myself(;  It's worth it though, I tend to take better care of my tack and other stuff when I buy it myself.

    I love my life, and everyone and everything in it.  I ride for Jesus(:

    Welcome, Breanna!  This is a great site and lots of great people.

    My daughter is just a little older than you and she has to work for a lot that she gets, too.  I believe that it is making her a better rounded and more capable person.  I bet it will you, too.  Keep up the good work.

    Hi Breanna, welcome to the forums! My name's Anni, I'm a first year at DePaul University, so I know all about having to work for what little time I have with horses. :) It's great to hear about you and Dakota, we'd love to see some pictures of you two. I've done a little drill team work (all English tack) and it's definitely fun and a great way to improve your riding. Looking forward to getting to know you. :)

    :)Thanks ya'll!  Everyone is so nice, even though I haven't logged on in a while.  I saw a show with Clinton Anderson yesterday, and now I'm hooked(;

     Dakota is flexing really well now, and I don't have to constantly slow her down at the trot.  It's that cruising exercise...I'm telling you, she's a wuick learner.

    By the way, I'm supposed to be getting a new project horse soon.  All fingers crossed that I'll be able to train it well and make a little money.  It won't be long before I need a new saddle...and a vehicle. (;

     I went to the SC Horsemen's Council Expo the other weekend for my first show.  For anyone who happened to be there, I was on the paint mare who wouldn't stop moving (I carried the white flag).

    --Anyway, I hope ya'll have a great week!

    Re: A little about me--considering I'm new(;

    Hi Breanna and welcome!  Glad to hear Dakota is doing better with her speed control.  I too am on a mounted drill team, we perform at local rodeos as well as our hometown rodeo every year - it's a blast.

    The horse I usually ride in drill has a lot of "go" too, and so I totally understand your challenges.  He's come a long way and settled down a lot since we first started, but he still gets so excited when we get in the arena even after several years.

    We're working on his performance doing the Weave pattern right now, as last year the horse right in front of him had a major accident while doing this, a near head on collision with the horse he was "weaving" with causing him to rear up twice, and the second time he came down flat on his back injuring himself and his rider; so now my horse has developed a major issue with horses coming straight at him in the arena and he tends to way overcompensate by weaving way out at the last minute to avoid colliding with the other horse.  Considering this pattern is supposed to be as tight as possible, that makes it kinda hard to perform it correctly!  Anyways, we're working on it and in the meantime I'm keeping my other horse warmed up and practiced up just in case.

    Good luck with Dakota and hope to see you round!
