Lucky?? Silly me, never happy, but it was 54 degrees when I went out to my car this morning at 7. I slept great, until husband decided he was cold and turned the fan off.... Angry

I think that means you have one smart dog there... and a daughter with a knack for training said dog.... Smile

Lee Valley Tools has something that will penetrate rotting wood and restore it to structural soundness. I've used it on my old window frames, along with a bit of plastic wood where necessary, with considerable success.

Minwax puts something out you can put on rotting wood as well which we will use on the remaining window, however the two we are replacing had other marks against them. The kitchen window was a fixed picture window with little to no architectural character and the other window leaked both air and water... thus explaining why it was rotting. Ultimately it would have had to be replaced and since they're putting new siding in these areas it made sense to do it now rather than in 2 or 3 years. That doesn't help the current budget any but in the long term is the right thing to do...

The weather is getting better here, we've been having quite a bit of rain recently but now the sun is shining again and it's starting to warm up a bit.

Last night I was in our back garden with Shadow and the lady who owns the big draft cross in the field behind our house came over to talk to me. She is looking for someone to ride Jack occasionally and has asked me whether I would be interested... Well D'uh ofcourse I am interested.

We where talking for a bit and she told me that Jack is 6 years old and that he is still quite green but at the same time very steady and that he is okay with traffic and barking dogs. She is a very big, short lady and she feels she is perched ontop of him when she rides and she also feels he could do with someone who has more experience to ride him every now and then. I told her what my riding experience is and she seemed to think that I'm way more experienced than she is. I get the feeling from what she told me that she is used to riding typical school horses and that Jack is maybe a little much for her as he has some quirks that she can't seem to deal with. One of which is that he is very afraid of a crop and when out on his own he can be a bit sluggish. The problems she says she has I can deal with, so providing my first ride of him goes well I could have a free horse to ride every now and then which would be good.

She is going to come and see me next week sometime so we can set something up.

I'm think that if this work it will be great Laugh

How exciting for you... that would be almost like having your own horse... you can walk across the lawn to see him, ride him etc. Of course he wouldn't be your dream horse but perhaps if things work out you'd be able to keep a horse there with Jack.... Smile

That sounds like a great opportunity, even if she is just looking for someone to help her with her problems with Jack. (They don't sound as if they're really suited to one another.)

Can you ride him in the field while you get acquainted? I wonder what Shadow will think of seeing her mommy on a horse!

That is sort of what I was thinking, this arrangement could work out really well for both me and Jack's owner.

I just hope he is a nice ride and you are right I can go and spoil him with some nice carrots whenever I fancy Grin

If things work out I might have a Friesian mare in a couple of years time (things are brewing, schemes are being hatched, money is being put in a kitty Smirk) and it would be nice to have somewhere close by where I could keep her...

LOL I bet I've got you wondering now!

yep it is a wonderful opportunity and if I hadn't taken the time to talk to the other lady that has horses in the fields behind us I don't think jack's owner would have asked me.

I am planning to maybe have the first ride in the field and if we get on well I might take him straight onto the road for a little test drive. I'll see how things go first though. There is no use is jumping the gun as they say.

LOL I wonder how both Shadow and Dali are going to react when they see their mummy on a horse. I know Shadow was fearful of horses with these strange tall things attached to their backs when she saw a horse and rider up close last year. since she has seen more but they have never actually ridden past us since then. It will be an adventure for sure! Smile

Nope none what so ever... LOL

This scheme might actually work but it does mean I won't have my own horsey for another 2 years... I'm not going to tell what is brewing coz I don't want to jinx things....

But lets just say the UK-ers are sticking together!

On a slightly different subject have we seen LadyMccue yet over here on the new forum? I haven't seen her and i haven't had time to check the about forum to see if she has been on there. I want to make sure that we don't leave anyone behind Blush

She was on the other one last night but I haven't seen her here yet. Momsonthemac is stuck over there... so far. I haven't seen MBronk on either. Most everyone else is still going back and forth .....

I am planning on going back to the old forum every now and then for the time being.

I hope all the old conference crew make it over here...

I emailed Appy21 to let her know the change has happened. She lost her password for the about forum and now can't get back in
    over there.
So hopefully we'll see her on here soon.

I'm sure MBronk will be on here in a couple of days, didn't she say she wasn't going to be around for the next few days?

A quick question to all of you.

If things work out would you take out some sort of riders insurance?

I'm trying to think practically here, I mean if something where to happen to Jack (I'm thinking an injury) while I am riding him - It would be my responsibility wouldn't it? And if I have some sort of insurance that would cover me incase his owner tried to sue me for his injury.

What do you think? Bearing in mind I don't really know these people.
