    western show clothes

So I'm ordering clothes for western classes and I'm looking at the shirts and I know that alot of people wear the show shirts with the big cuffs and collars..but if I were to wear a slinky would I have to wear some type of vest over it?

Your horse can only be as brave as you are

What type of shows will you be attending? Many times at local shows, I just wear a button down/snap retro shirt. I've even showed AQHA in a retro western shirt. If you're neat and presentable, it doesn't really matter. I have seen a few vests at the local level, but I think these days vests are "out" (though I like the look of them).  If you're not into the french cuffs and big collars, just got for a pretty western shirt and it'll be just fine.

what RR said..Id be apprehensive about just a slinky too..youve got to be a stick to wear one of those alone.

Mo, your painted guy looks good in that photo*wink*

Thanks Sarah! Can I just tell you how much I LOVE this pony??? :) We entered Amateur Ranch Reining at last month's show... and won it under both judges! We're taking it slow - adding a few classes here and there - am going to try to be brave this weekend and attempt to show him at least Ranch Riding in the bridle. *eeks* Morgan's been doing leadline on him and leadline trail. Not bad for a 4 year old (horse!)  :)

Buck played babysitter to one of Paul's client's daughters the other night as well..they are just GOOD GOOD minded horses.

The bridle..ekk, big step...have someone take photos, I hope he does veru awesome for you!

He is even better minded than Mojo - and her temperament can't be beat! He also tries so hard to figure out what you're asking... he's got that mare-heart thing going on that I haven't run across in many geldings. KWIM?

Hopfully hubby will have camera going... at schooling, he's gone pretty well at home in the bridle... depends on turnout too, if classes are large, I'll probably chicken out and go back to snaffle, but if they're not too big, and the pen is large enough, we'll try it! LOL! :)

I would stay away from slinkies.  We want you to put your best foot forward when you step in the show ring!  Slinkies are a bit dated, and really only looked best when paired with a vest or jacket.  You could still probably get by with one under a vest if you needed to, but there are some great deals to be had on more current styles.  Honestly, I would focus on spending my money on good quality neutral chaps and a hat and go with a nice button-down shirt.  Add a nice necklace and earrings for femininity, and there you go--you'll look like the trainers :)  Or if you still want a fancier show shirt, I would keep an eye on ebay, tack trader, and Karen's Kustoms.
