    Re: Onto the Bridle...

You could always get one with a flash and take the flash off.  You never know if she might need one later on, and you don't have to crank her mouth shut with it even if you did use it.  I think that is where flash bands get their bad rap.

I never wanted to use a flash on Riz but I might have to now because she's starting to put her tongue over the bit.  Could be a bit issue, too, though.

But even if you didn't want the flash tab on the bridle, it can be removed by a good leather repair shop.  You might open up some options that way.

I HATE flashes, so I'm with you flake.  I like to be able to "hear" what the horse is telling me with its mouth.

A couple of options -- StateLine I think has a decent HDR dressage bridle with no flash.  Also, if you are interested, my saddle fitter can make custom bridles.  She makes a lovely bridle, a close friend got one about a year ago.  $70, you can't beat that.  Nice soft leather and very durable, looks very professional.  She can even make browbands with inlaid beads or crystals if you are into that sort of thing.  Let me know and I can hook you up with her, she's wonderful and magic with a piece of leather.  I'm going to have her make me one very soon.

Nicole, I'm considering that, if I can't find a good quality, suitable bridle in our price range. There are many more good-quality used flashes on Ebay.

Solo, SLT does have a couple of nice ones for $105-$150 range, which is much better than SmartPak or anywhere. I really like the sound of your saddle fitter's bridles, though, does the $70 include reins or no?

They are very nice.  Yes, I believe the price includes reins.  She offers choices, you can get flat leather, web with stops or laced.  You can also chose whether you want buckles or hook studs.  Her email is southernreins@yahoo.com, just tell her Brena sent you (or Solo's mom).  I'm sure she can send you pics of her stuff, I'm not into bling really at all, but some of her browbands are just stunning.  She really works hard to make sure the fit is right.  I am sure you could send her measurements.

ETA - her name is Shelby!

I know Dover a lot of times will give away a free bridle with a saddle purchase.. Just a thought since you are buying a saddle anyway...

Thanks Solaris, I will definitely get in touch with her soon.

Back to the saddles... I found a reasonably priced Crosby St George Softride, anyone have any experience with those saddles?

I have seen and sat in quite a few Marcel Toulouse saddles and they seem excellent for the price. It did seem like the trees were a hair on the narrow side.  All of you that have had Toulouse Saddles does that seem to run true or was that just an illusion?  I ride mainly Quarters so need a saddle that won't pinch the shoulders.  Would you reccomend a regular or wide tree?

Also you can buy them new for a good price at kotrading.com

I'm not sure about Toulouse, but the Passier I got on trial ran narrow.
