Grooming Tools & Products: What Are Your Favorites?

The October '09 issue of Horse & Rider includes a feature called "25 Favorite Grooming Aids." We polled staff members, readers, and members of Team H&R to come up with the 25 items. And learned about some great items in the process!

Now it's your turn to add to the picture. We'd like to know:

What's the name of the product you love to use for grooming; what's the approximate cost; and why do you love it?

    Thanks, from the H&R EditorsĀ

My favourite is my two sided gel curry.  It's soft enough for any horse, gives a massage while using, and easy to clean.  And CHEAP!  Great for bathing too, to rub up a lather on white legs, work soap into hair, then an easy rinse to clean.  I can use it to work loose hair and scurf off of my horse's face too.  Indestructible grooming tool I can use for everything -- what's not to like?

Hands down, my favorite thing ever id the Slick N' Easy block. It's about $3 and I would not go without one always being in my groom box.

You beat me to it, IrishRider.  The Slick N Easy is absolutely a must-have in my grooming kit.

Healthy Haircare moisturizer, known as "the pink stuff" at my barn.  It conditions, detangles and shines, and doesn't leave the hair slippery or greasy.  It's also concentrated - you mix one part product with eight parts water before use - so that little 16oz bottle makes A LOT.

I'd have to say EZ All.  It's so hot here 9 months out of the year, and having a flea bit grey and an App with a blanket it's just so much easier to get them clean, and a lot less work than brushing for hours.

Health Hair Care, about $6 I think, no sticky residue, no build up, detangles great

gel curry, about $3, horses love it!

clean brushes (so love that new fizzy brush cleaner stuff, love it!), the fizzy cleaner is about $3 I think, works great!

elbow grease, free, works every time ;)

I will add cotton gloves like the roppers use.  I use them as mits to wash my horse apply all sorts of products and wipe down my hors just before we go in the ring.  My Horse is mostly white so that is a big deal.  I also use one for my boots and one for my clothes.

I Love all of osters grooming products! They are very durable & get the job done! They are a little pricey, but worth the money!

I like the Slick N' Easy block too, but I usually go to a Restaurant type store and buy grill cleaning bricks and take and saw them into sections.  That way I can have a size that is easier  for me to handle.   It is cheaper and I get a lot more for my money.  I haven't bought one in a long time so they last a long time.

thanks for the tip klebar!  you should really send that to H&R for next month's issue, they have a specific section for that type of thing you know.
