    Critique this Saddle :p

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-15-All-Leather-Western-Pleasure-Trail-Saddle_W0QQitemZ110451384103QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item19b76a5f27

And here is a 16" of the same saddle. just incase the 15" saddle's sale ends you can still veiw the saddle.

I'm looking at it for Riley, my new boy, my current western saddle fits CB but not him. I had a lady at the barn try her Full QH tree saddle on him and she says thats the gullet he needs.

I've never bought a saddle from online, but the feedback is very positive on this seller and theres even comments that the saddles are able to be sent back if it doesnt fit your horse (i read many of the feedbacks)

I'm looking for an all around saddle that i can use to put many miles on him, also used for a tad bit of Ranch Horse Association shows and fair. I dont do any shows bigger then local.

Please are their faults on this saddle that i;m not seeing?? 90% chance that if i got this saddle i would take off the saddle strings.

    Re: Critique this Saddle :p

It looks like a Pakistani-built saddle. Thin leather (see the rolls in the stirrup leather and flank cinch), dimple in the seat, cantle & stitching crooked, exposed screw head in the flocking. The 100% feedback score is for mostly Aussie saddles as far back as I looked, so this may be a new line of saddles for the seller. And shipping is almost $40. So if you send it back you'll have to spend $80 for nothing, plus wait and hope you DO get your money back in a reasonable amount of time.

Gullet width is 6 3/4". That's just barely full QH bars. And you have no idea if the rock & flare of the tree bars will fit your horse. And for a starting bid over $200 you're not that far away from an Abetta or Weaver brand flex tree price.

I have an eBay Pakistani saddle I bought 5 years ago just for starting green horses under saddle. I paid less than $100 for it, new. So if a horse goes over backward on it I'm not out much money. No way I would use it as a primary riding saddle. ~FH

I agree with FH -- many times with saddles, you DO get what you pay for and a brand new leather saddle for $230, ummmm, I suspect all manner of cheapness!

    Miss_Versatility :

Same seller as the other saddles but using a different seller name on this item. Prolly due to the 97% feedback rating with this account.

You're prolly too late to bid on this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-15-Western-Saddle-Tack-Set-Hand-Tooled_W0QQitemZ260497948320QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ca6e33ea0

It's a Tucker Saddle look-alike. Problem I see with this one though is they say it's full QH bars but a 6" gullet. That makes it a SEMI QH bar saddle! So that tells me the seller is not very well versed in saddle sizing.

I know you're anxious to get a saddle for your new guy. But I advise against rushing into a piece O' crap that will have ramifications with your horse's attitude and behavior for the rest of his life if you start him under a cheap saddle. You can always get Dad to give you a $250 saddle credit for Christmas... maybe another in advance of a birthday... try to save a little on your own to add to it and do it right the first time. ~FH

    Thanks FH!!

I have no idea how i missed that saddle. i have been stalking Ebay for the past week, looking for hours at a time. And never once came arcoss that one.

I cant tell if it sold but i know the bidding ended. I emailed the seller to ask if they would be re-listing it if it didnt sell.

My birthday's not till September so advances on birthday wouldnt happen lol. But with having three horses right now i cant save up much more then 10-20 extra dollars a month :(

This may sound odd but have you checked local pawn shops.  Around here there are at least one or two in every shop.  Some will let you take them and try them on your horse.  With the economy down so are prices.

Have you looked at Wintec western saddles?  They are great! I have one, it is super comfortable, and very easy to clean and care for, and quite durable.  I will be selling it, partially to help pay for the Wintec English saddle I just got, and mostly bc it just doesn't Bailey's Tb withers and back very well, (QH bars). (It's a big honking thing, so I am pretty sure it wouldn't work for little Riley)  Good luck finding one, and of course after you have gotten one, you have to post pics of it on him!

Amber also has a very good suggestion. It is amazing what people take into pawn shops!
