definitely have it checked!!! It may be as simple as an abrasion to the cornea, but that is PAINFUL and an open invitation for infection. The deal with eyes is that they get better fast once you start treating them, but up to that point they get worse really fast too. You may be able to clean the eye out using a sterile saline solution (you can find this at any grocery or drug store, usually close to the stuff for contact lenses) and a gauze pad to wipe away the crud, but if the eye hurts expect the horse to fight you some. Also, your vet may prefer that you leave it alone so he/she can see how it looks without treatment. Good luck!
