    Warmblood

I see the term warmblood used often. What exactly does it mean?

technically a hot blood is an arab or thoroughbred a cold b lood is a draft horse or heavily feathered horse and a warm blood is anything in between. however nowadays it is used to describe horses like hanoverians oldenburgs trakkenas that type of horse.

Yup, exactly right! "Warmblood" comes from "Hot-blooded" (Arabian horse, etc) plus "Cold-blooded" (draft horse). Hot+cold=warm. Smile At least that's what I've been told.

its a bit more complicated than above statement - a warmblood is NOT anything in between - QH isn't a warmblood. BTW, warmbloods are registries not breeds.

    Exactly..

A warmblood is a registry... not a breed.

    Re: Warmblood

Yup, warmblood is a registry. Warmblood breeds are Oldenburg, Holsteiner, Hanoverian, etc. They are very nice horses Smile I love my Oldenburg, though he's very smart and always tries to test me.
