    Oval head, round head, helmets?

Do any of you have suggestions on helmets that are round shaped and also oval shaped?  It's time for my daughter and I to get new helmets.  We already know that her head fits better in a round shaped helmet, like Troxel.  I have a Charles Owen, and I have an oval shaped head.

I'm thinking Troxel for her and maybe IRH for me.  Although I really wanted to get the Ovation Protege for us, as they look to be super cool and lightweight for our Florida weather, but I believe they're right in the middle (oval/round)Anyone?

Go to a tack shop and try some on. It is SO important for your helmet to fit well that I wouldn't order one on-line.

I have no idea what shape my  head is (head-shaped?) but if you go over to the COTH forums and do a search, they have endless and mind-numbingly long discussions about what brands of helmets fit what shape of head, so you can find every aspect of the answer you are looking for, I am sure of it!  Especially in the Hunter/Jumper folder.

I have no idea what sort of shape my head would be.

Although, when I was buying my velvet show helmet, I tried on the Charles Owen Hampton helmet, and I was told it was a "Mushroom Cap" on me, and it didn't fit correctly. But then I tried the Charles Owen Jr8 and it fits perfectly! I use it today and it is the most comfortable helmet I ever had!

I recommend you go to the tack store to try on a lot of different helmets. Find the one with the best fit for you and your daughter. Like in my story, I tried on the same brand, but the 2 different styled helmets fit differently. So I wouldn't necessarily give up on a brand, because some styles may fit differently.

I suggest getting the helmet with the most comfort, and make sure it is certified. I recommend the brands IRH or Charles Owen, but make sure the helmet fits you and you like it! Good luck!

This is why mail order will never put shopping in person out of Business.  You have to see it, (I had my eye on a helmet of years... the leather one)...yuk looked like a dork in it.  Try them on to get the best fit and buy THAT one.  Yes, that particular helmet you have tried on.

In order to get the right fit, go to your tack store and ask for an employee to help fit you and your daughter to new helmets. It might take a while, it did for me, but I ended up getting a helmet that I love. I have the Charles Owen JR8 and it fits beautifully, looks great for shows and practice, and is worth the price. I did use a coupon, but still! And since I use the helmet for both practice and shows, I use a velvet helmet cover I used when I was younger when my helmet wasn't velvet to protect it. Safety is so important, you can't just order a helmet online and hope it fits. You need to go to the store in person and try on as many as needed until you find one that fits properly. Also, don't give up on brands because they are known to have one type of fit. I tried on a couple of Charles Owen helmets, and other brands, but the best helmet that fit me was actually a Charles Owen, and they are so comfortable.

Also, I do not know how old your daughter is, but if she is younger, maybe you should consider helmets with the dials in the back to adjust the fit, especially if she has a lot of thick hair.

Good luck on your helmet search! :)
