I saw of video competing at I think Rolex, and their stirrup broke on the cross country. they still two pointed and jumped, finishing the course, so it's very possible. The video is on thrils and Spills volume two.

Being in two point without stirrups is absolutely possible, and a very very important exercize that builds up the muscles that allow us to have an independent seat. If you are having problems, then you are probably confused about which muscles control posting. You should post with your thighs and NOT with your feet, by standing up in your stirrups. Two point is similar to the higest point in the post, where the only points of contact on the horse are your thighs and your calves.

In posting, you should be letting the horses natural movement push you out of the saddle, and then you control your movement up, and your descent back down, with your inner thighs.

It's possible, but it does hurt like heck after about 30 seconds unless you are in darn good shape.

I have been practicing my posting without stirrups letting it all come from thighs...i'm sure it's mostly just a strength thing to get that 2 point but I can't stay up long enough to even make it look like i'm not posting. maybe I need a thigh master? Stick out tounge

It's possible, just hard at first. To help yourself out try grabbing mane to help hold yourself up for a little bit... a good way to practise this is do a few steps of sitting trot with no stirrups, then pull yourself up into two point for the same amount of strides, then sitting trot, then two point etc. Then you can move on to doing it at the canter.

Re: two point without stirrups, show me

ive finished a cross country course with only one stirrup before. its not the easiest thing, actually i would rather have no stirrups than jsut one.
the thing i find the hardest is not slipping, its all in the legs. the best way to practice is just to do it. maybe try 2pt down the long side, and then sit or whatever on the short sides. (if you have long sides. other wise just pick 2 opposite sides)
we used to warm up by going over low bounces with out stirrups...the hardest part is staying with your horse on landing and not sitting down, i still have to work on that. unfortunatly right now im not jumping, so i get to talk about it with out haveing to do it...lol

There was a thread a while ago titled "The 2-pt Challenge" or something similar discussing 2pt without stirrups. Here's a picture of 2pt with and with out stirrups.
