    Hoof Packing

anyone have any ideas which hoof packing is in a black bucket with red orange lettering?  my farrier reccomended it but, can't remember brand, just calls it hoof packing.

anyone have any favorite hoof packing for hard hooves?

there's so many out there.  i have the usual hooflex, but, my farrier says that's no good.  too thin and doesn't stay on for any length of time.

Is it Forshners??  I've never used hoof packing, but I've heard great things about Forshners and Magic Cushion.  I heard somewhere that Forshners was not going to make the hoof packing anymore, but not sure how accurate that info is.

looked up the forshners and that looks like the description--black with orange/red lettering.  i don't know if it's sold in my area.  the main tack shop doesn't have it.  but they do have magic cushion.

    thanks for the info....

Our tack shop sells forshners and magic cushion but I really like Hoof-Ease. It's in a white bucket with a black label. It does a good job of helping to add suppleness to the hooves again. And it's super cushy...like riding on air. LOL It's pretty new so i'm pretty sure it's only local as far as tack shops go but I think they have a website too. Google it. :)

got the forshners.  it's hard to make it stick into their hooves.  oh well.  hopefully it stays in long enough to do some good.

I've never used hoof packing, but I wonder if the directions on the bottle say to put something over the packed hoof, like VetWrap or duct tape, to keep it in there. Just a thought.

yes it does say to cover it with straw or newspaper. i used newspaper.  but, it just seemed hard to make it stick into the hoof to begin with.  oh well, i will be doing it a few times, so, i'll probably get the hang of it eventually.

the farrier said a couple times a week for a month or two should do it.

I've never packed a hoof, but where I used to board, one of the other boarders used Forschners and wrapped the hoof in Vetwrap to keep it all in place.
