    Sad-Rague's not a Momma again!

Finally got the DNA news back - Rague is NOT Pistol Rose's dam ( www.pjappaloosaranch.com where they call her 'Journey'). For those who do not remember Rose was registered as being out of Desert Rose but the DNA proved that wrong. She was tested to Rague but she's not the dam either. Now a bigger problem exists - many of the other mares that were in the herd are now 'gone' without there being DNA on file. Rose/Journey's papers are now held up til her dam is found and she is in foal for a 2007 foal that can't be reg. unless the papers are straightened out.

Oh, I'm so sorry for you! I hope things start to look up soon, and you get this whole mess straightened out. **hugs**

    Good luck!

    Frown that just sucks.
Hope they can find her dame so the papers can be straightened out. She's too nice to not be able to pass on registered babies.

Frown bummer.. It would have been nice to have settled that problem if Gue had been the dam.. sigh.. I wish them the best of luck getting to the bottom of it.

If she has a colored colt-and you geld him-I think you can do the Hardship Registry for him. I hope you get it all straightened out though. Good luck!

Re: Sad-Rague's not a Momma again!

We're not actually involved in the problem other than Hubby owns Rague.

In 2002, a 90+ y/o App breeder died. His entire herd was liquidated (in his will it was stated that they all be privately sold at 'killer prices' so that they didn't go to the killers). Hubby bought Rague (her complete reg. name is 'Rague'), Nov 8, 2002 and she was carrying Kicks (April 26, 2003) at the time. Pistol Rose H who was supposed to be by Buck Shott H and out of Desert Rose H. was bought by someone who i didn't know but then later sold to the one who bought Buck Shott and then sold again to people in Ill. As they bred her and she had to have her DNA on file for the foal they DNA'd her. She does test as being Buck Shott's but Desert Rose was ruled out as possibly being her dam. They called Kristine (Buck Shott's owner) and she called me and Rague was DNA'd hopeing that she would be the right mare but she isn't. Now they have to try to track down other mares out of the herd back in 2000 but there are few that have had DNA done and many are not still 'kicking'.

Yes if she has a colt they could geld it (or spay a filly) and 'hardship' it if it colors and has characteristics but they are a small breeder and a mare no matter how nice without papers does not really fit in their program.

I haven't sent in for Kicks' DNA yet but as we owned Rague when he was born and he was still partly in the sac when I saw him, I'm not worried about him testing to Rague. There had been 2 stallions at the ranch but if I remember correctly Dave had sent Buck Shott's sire off to the killers before Rague was bred for Kicks. Worse come to worse if Kicks doesn't DNA to Buck Shott I'll have to also blood type him as ApHC only has blood on Shot Gun H.

    Hope that makes better sense.

I'm sorry to hear that. You must be disappointed. Is there anything else that can be done to track her lineage?

Re: Sad-Rague's not a Momma again!

I was told yesterday by ApHC that unless they can find more mares out of the herd and test them and one matches, there isn't much that can be done for her to get her papers back unless she is spayed and get's them under the hardship clause.

I can't help but wonder how many others have been reg. with the wrong sire/dam and now that DNA is required, how many surprises will turn up. I really don't think that this elderly gentleman diliberatly put wrong info - he was in his late 90's in 2002 and had 40 mares not long before his death.

    I've learned a lot!

Though I haven't said anything to any of the parties involved - I can't help but wonder what legal issues might be involved. They bought what they thought was a reg. mare with papers that appeared to in order. Kristine did not know there was a problem BUT -?

Re: Sad-Rague's not a Momma again!

FYI --  Pistol Rose's foal was a gorgeous filly.  She was born not long after my mare had a stillborn foal by Buck Shott H.  (My mare was a 17 year old maiden mare.)  I bought Blue Horizon (named after my dad's favorite song) and brought her to Georgia.  She's quite possibly the sweetest thing on the face of the earth.  I enjoy every day with her and she's a family member.

Unless someone out there pulls a miracle out of their hat, Blue's unregistered and will stay that way.  That doesn't matter to me -- she's a wonderful girl and she doesn't care if she's registered or not.  She shares the pasture with Muzzy (Domino Tolumne who is a Buck Shott daughter) and my 5 and 18 year old mares.  I intend to keep her around long term so her registration is a moot point.  Her favorite thing on a hot day is getting hosed down for as long as possible.  She turns around and around so every inch of her gets wet.

We recently erected a lovely 5 foot tall 4 board fence that not even Muzzy (and by extension Blue) can't break out of.  If they get out of THIS fence I'll either send them to a jumper trainer or to Harvard depending on the method they use.
