    Extreme Cowboy Race

I was watching RFDTV at a friend's today and saw the "Extreme Cowboy Race" today. Anyone do that? Looks like fun!

I'm dissappointed in the riding and horsemanship skills demonstrated though. One woman spent the ENTIRE time kicking her horse. I'd have bucked her off for sure. The other 3 cowboys did not have a good seat or position, and everyone was using the 2 handed method of reining, which to me, defeats the purpose of the cowboy style.

I could totally win that. ;)

C'mon ladies! Let's rally together and show them some real horsemanship!

I haven't even watched the show, but I say if it's "sooo easy" and everyone on the show is "sooo awful" then why don't you stop complaining, drop everything for however long it takes to film and go kick everyone's behind??? I'm sure that since it's a repeated show on a network that now has it's feet under it there is some decient price money, and since you seem so sure to win you'd at least get a vacation paid for....

It's real easy to be an armchair quarterback, especially when you don't have experience in the area of the event...

    WOW.

    Easy now.

I said that it looks like fun. I was joking that I could win it. I added the "C'mon ladies, let's show 'em" to top the joking feeling off, but apparently it didn't follow that same meaning with you.

I do have experience in the area of the event. Not this exact one, but the obstacles that the riders encounter. It's similar to Competitive Trail riding. There are a series of small banks (like the kind of cross country riding), a short water crossing, 2 small jumps, 2 barrels, and a circle in which you lope on both leads.

Seriously, did you have a bad day or something? I was not complaining, I was stating that compared to many other areas of riding that I've witnessed, the horsemanship and riding skills were not top notch. I'm sure that other contenders and perhaps the winner (the winner was not announced and I only caught 5 riders) were better than the ones that I witnessed today, but the riders that I saw did not score well and did not seem to have a confident connection with their horse.

I don't have RFD anymore...when they switched 'channels' dish didn't make sure to keep it on our package, even though it is supposed to beAngry Really should call them one of these days...Lol!

But yeah...I agree with the horsemanship; I used to watch it all the time, and over all...it's not that great...most of those horses don't back or yield over very well at all, alot of the people ride two handed, and alot have difficulty getting their horses going through the water.  And a common thing I observed was horses leaning on the bit and not stopping on their hind quarters.  However, the ones that are really good, are awesome to watch!!!  I really cheer then! I love the ECR....  I used to do all that stuff with mine too, but he and I had been around the block a lot... :)  He did ALMOST everything.  Did not like backing, but he would not have looked twice at that metal tube that they go through.  We went through a lot of weird stuff, since the city was encroaching on every place we rode. :)  And I think most of them ride young stock....  I am not sure...

I would have my work cut out for me to do it now though...  I would still love to try it.

I think it's pretty neat to watch. November they're doing it here! There's a big horse festival and expo, 3 days, and I"ll be there the entire time (with my drill team... we're doing our drill for the night performances, and the breed showcase during the day stuff) so I want to watch it live :) You can also enter it, but I don't have a suitable horse for it! ;) Well, possibly Summer, but I'll be too busy there with the minis, not only hubby and my drill team horses, but also bringing Chianti, my appy mini, for the breed demo (for part of it, we're showing some of the colors they come in, so we all decided my appy would be good for that!)

How cool! I wish they had something like this in Florida! There may be something in Ocala similar to it, but I'm pretty sure that it's a western states thing.

If you google "extreme cowboy" or craig cameron, you can watch the episodes from your computer.  If you don't get RFDTV, you can still see them.

Just got an email from Equine Affaire, California.  They are taking applications to ride in an Extreme Cowboy Race during the Equine Affaire.  $350 entry fee.

Aww, way over in Cali? Too far for me. Tell Meg to enter Ronnie if he gets there in time. She could gallop the whole thing with him and he wouldn't bat an eye (unless of course, they encountered a black rubber mat; it would all go to hell in a handbag from there ;))

Here's the website to watch it online:

I know the Extreme Cowboy Race is usually at The Horse Expo and they just invite the locals to tryout.  It's kinda a *regular rider* event, not a show or anything like one.

    Re: Extreme Cowboy Race

We don't have the extreme cowboy races around here persay, but we do have trail trials which are like the race. Obsticals over a timed course. Google trail trials and see if you have any in your area. The ones I checked out, but not been able to ride in, let both english and western riders in. Maybe someday, when I win the lottery and buy that trailer and truck, I'll be able to ride in one. LOL

    Re: Extreme Cowboy Race

They are also doing ECR at the Equine Affaire in Columbus, OH in April I think.  I have to agree that some of those riders need to work on some horsemanship skill but come on if I asked my horse to do some of those things I would be on the ground or in the watering hole that they have to go through! I have a very tempermental and sometimes "prissy" QH gelding. I know not so typical with the breed! Indifferent
