First off, start her just like any other horse. She must have a good solid basic foundation before she begins training as a barrel horse. Most important, start her SLOW on the barrels. Lots of walking, trotting, and some lope before you ever ask her for speed. Barrel racing is very hard on a horses hocks, and a baby can't take to much before she is fully grown. Also, speed too soon can cause anxiety in a young horse.
