My husband and I have two boys, a dog, two cats and six horses. We own a farm we call Sunshine Acres after my beloved Belgian mare, Sunshine. I bought Sunshine from the kill pen at the Shipshewana, IN auction in 2006, rescuing her from the sure fate of slaughter. There was nothing wrong with her, other than being unwanted. She was four years old at the time. I had 45 days put on her and have been riding/driving her ever since. I am against the unnecessary slaughter of horses. We board and lease horses at our farm as well as take in unwanted horses. We have a wonderful group of boarders and lessees that are like family. Taking care of the horses is my therapy.
