Here is a video of me riding hunt on my Saddlebred gelding, Beau. I have only taken one hunter/jumper lesson and the rest of my learning was from books and watching videos. I really have no desire to pursue hunter/jumper because I don't have to resources or time to do both that and dressage, which is my first love. Anyway, I am just curious as to what more knowledgable people think of my riding. I am also interested on your feedback on this horse as well. I know, being a Saddlebred, he is not

[quote user="48northfarm"]Without a video of her movement it would be impossible to speculate on her future as an upper level dressage horse. Getting only a 56 in an Intro test might indicate poor movement, but also it could mean a rider that couldn't get what is needed for a better score. IMHO. Juno and I got a 50 in Training Level 4, not b/c she was unsuited to dressage--a Dutch clinician said that she could easily reach the Grand Prix level--but b/c I was just sitting on her, not

"The babies are really good at doing silly things at inopportune times!" Tell me about it! My 3 year old filly and I were showing at our first dressage show. It was the second day of the show and both her and I were rather tired, physically and especially mentally. Anyway, we had just finished trotting the 20 m circle which she had done well and were heading towards the corner. All of the sudden she stopped! I tried to get her to go forward but she wouldn't go! Then the judge yelled

Here are some pictures of my 3 year old morgan filly, Myka. I started her this last spring and have been riding her all summer under the instruction of my dressage instructor. We went to our first schooling show (her's and mine) in October and scored 56% in both Intro Test A and B. She has always placed in open shows. I showed her in her first under saddle class this last summer and we won 4/13. I was really proud of her! I am hoping to show her dressage with some open pleasure shows thrown in

I don't really know what happens for me to gain a horse's trust. I just work with it everyday and spend LOTS of time grooming and petting. I make sure to give lots of praise but you also have to be sure to discipline though not harshly. For me, it's just getting to know the horse and spending so many hours with it that eventually it will learn to trust you.

What my mom did was bring her own dog (Sidney)with her on trail rides. She was a yellow lab that was very dominant towards other dogs. If there was a dog coming after my mom and her horse, Sidney would put them in their place, aka: the ground or the doghouse... Unfortunately, we had to put her down due to bladder issues and horrible ear infections that paralyzed her hearing. When we did have Sidney, we would walk towards the dog or else yell at it to "go home!" though that didn't work
