It's great that you want to try something new with regards your riding. I only ride english but would also love to try to ride western. I wouldn't sell your saddle to get an english one just in case you realise that you don't like english and wish to go back western. Is there anyone you could borrow a saddle off. This could help convince your dad that you are serious about changing dicipline and its not just a passing phase that you'll get sick of once you buy all the gear. You could probably get
