Owning a horse is NOT always about riding
I couldn't agree more about that. It's been a long time since I've riden and I adore my horse! She is 7 years old and we'll get there.. lol. I had an older horse who I rode but lost him almost 2 years ago. He had become thin and I wasn't able to ride him for a few years, but my time with them is precious time! I'm content sitting in the pasture watching all the horses graze :) Suzie is

Quote: I was just visiting your website today looking at the plus size riding breeches.I found you through a search engine.Great prices-if I decide to go english,I'm going to order from you! (P.S. I'm just starting at 37 too...) Thanks Kathy! I'll tell you what, lots of my customers that ride trail are now buying breeches, that's all I wear when I ride too. They are really comfortable! I'm larger and I just wear a comfy long t-shirt with them and I'm good to go Thanks for letting me know that you

I've never heard of them. They must be local to your area. Sorry you haven't had very good experiences lately. It's all about customer service in this day and age! Lisa

I started riding later in life, 37 years old, and the barn near my house only did English. So English it was. Actually English is all I know. However, I just got myself a Tucker River Plantation Saddle... what would that be I'm only going to pleasure/trail ride. I'm older and want more saddle so thought this was a good compromise. It's more Western to me... comfortable and that's the goal. I have a lot of people come into my store asking about riding lessons. I suggest that people learn to ride English

Congrats on the weight loss! I wish my scale would break... lol. I have to get on the ball and get some weight off. Even at my lower weights I am still large and seem to worry about the horses when I ride. Quote: went from 120 pounds to 190 pounds in a shockingly short amount of time Amazing how quick it comes on and how slow it is to take off! What's up with that Lisa

Lots of good advice here. I'm wondering how old you are, if field boots are necessary? Check with your trainer about that. Younger riders are fine in Jod's, paddock boots and a garter strap under the knee. Field boots are expensive and not very comfortable. If you don't have to get them, I wouldn't do that yet. Another reasonably priced brand is TuffRider. I sell it in my shop and my customers really like it. Best of luck! Lisa

Love this thread! I got my first horse (my life long dream) when I was 37 years old. I'm now 51. I lost Jake, my first horse, a year and a half ago... it still hurts so much. He was my heart. I have Suzie though and she's my baby girl. She's 7 years old, I've owned her since she was a yearling. We aren't quite riding yet... she's had her saddle on many times and about 2 months ago I finally sat on her for the first time. She was great!! She acted like it was the natural thing to happen... we've been

I'm so glad to see all these encouraging replies! I started taking lessons for my 37th birthday... 3 months later bought my first horse (a dream come true). I'm 51 now, lost that horse a year ago, along with my heart. But I have another horse. I've had her for 6 years since she was a year old. She's not under saddle yet but we are working towards it. How about being 51 and trying to be the first one to get on a green horse Your gonna do great!

Congrats on the saddle... it's beautiful. I can't wait to hear how it fits and feels! I knew JPC Equestrian would come through, they are my main supplier for a reason. They are great to work with and have good products. Lisa
