• Who's your favorite riding clinician and why?

The upcoming December 2009 issue of Practical Horseman is focused on education. In it we bring you reports from two recent clinics: one with Olympic show jumper Joe Fargis and another with eventer Jon Holling. This got me to wondering, who is your favorite riding clinician, and why? If you haven't taken any clinics, who would you want to ride with?

  • Re: Question about November's article with John French

We hear you guys, and this is something we discussed knowing full well we'd get letters from our astute readers. (The feedback just goes to prove how wonderfully educated you guys are! Well done!) However, the idea was to highlight the magnificent Rumba on our cover. Despite what John is doing, it doesn't seem to be affecting Rumba's style, which is the bottom line in hunters, as Solaris points out. Remember, the story isn't about John's equitation--it's about his strategies

  • Re: Has anyone taken the USHJA Trainer Cert Program?

I haven't taken it, but I have read the manual, and the information is phenomenal! It's a must-read for any horseperson, not just those who are considering certification.

  • Do you think the USHJA Hunter Derby concept is the future of the hunter sport?

In the upcoming November 2009 issue of Practical Horseman , we have a feature with John French on his winning strategies with Rumba at the inaugural 2009 USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals. If you've been following this "new" concept at all, what are your thoughts about it? Do you think this is the future of the hunter sport? Why or why not?

  • Re: George Morris Clinic Article

HI Stephanie, Sorry if we didn't get back to you. I don't remember receiving an email. I'm not sure when you sent the photo, but we have about a 3-year backlog. We use photos in the order in which they're received. Happy riding and reading! Stacey Wigmore Managing Editor, Practical Horseman

  • Were there any times in your riding or training when you tried to rush something without success?

A common theme in the September 2009 issue of Practical Horseman was slow and steady training. Editor Sandy Oliynyk discussed this in her editorial . My question to you: Were there any times in your riding or training when you tried to rush something without success? What was it, when did you realize it and how did you go about fixing it? I think this is something every rider has done at least once and probably learned a lot from it. Share your experiences.

  • Ever had a bad fall? Share your story.

In the August issue of Practical Horseman, we published a story with Danny Warrington and Mike Pilato on making falls safer ("Heads Up! Rethinking Fall Safety"). Have YOU ever had a bad fall? If you were taught how to fall, did it help you during the situation? Would/could you have done anything differently if it happened again? Do you currently do anything to help prepare you for future falls? Share your experiences.

  • Re: Thank You, PH
Oh, and I hope you're not too sore from your fall. Icy Hot patches work wonders.
It wasn't too bad. Thanks for the tip though! I'll definitely keep that in mind. Typically I go for a couple Advil and a glass of wine! ;-)

  • Re: Thank You, PH

Thank you, guys! I thought Sandra's article with Danny and Mike on falling was just brilliant. What amazes me is that I came across another series of photos of Phillip falling, and you could have superimposed them over the ones we printed. It just absolutely amazes me that a rider can teach himself to react in that way at a time when things are happening really fast. Of course I managed to fall off myself during the production of the August issue, and I can tell you that trying to affect my fall
