Fortunately the meds are working well and the swelling has gone down quite a lot today, the results of the blood tests should be back today and the scans will be back to the docs this afternoon, the only trouble is I have been researching on the net and so far I have any amount of diseases, some of which

  • Re: Fingers crossed

Congrats RC! I like him very much, such a kind face, well done!!!!! Vet checks, mmmmm never bothered myself, there is ALWAYS going to be something turn up on a vet check no horse is a 100% perfect. You can go down the x ray path etc etc but at the end of the day if hes what you want and will do what you want, then buy him. If you were wanting to compete at the olympics etc then yep go do xrays, but even THOSE horses are'nt 100% so whats the point. You only need to know what YOU can see, so if

  • Re: Appt Pending . . .

Hi RC - (I know im not FH but thought I would add my 10 cents worth LOL!) Sounds to me like Bunny had the bejesus knocked out of her on right rein! So sounds like you need to go back to the beginning on this rein, Bunny needs to understand that nothing nasty is going to happen here, even if at first it needs to be 'forced'on her - which I know sounds like a contradiction in terms. She needs the confidence built back into her, stopping before she gets angry is really only giving in to her

  • Re: Bonding with a weanling

bbryant, you have been given some good advice with your question, especailly from my good eques-buddy FHM! I will only add my own experience when dealing with youngsters, first of all I feel that 5 months is to young to have been weaned from the mare, unless circumstances forced this, youngsters learn so much from their mothers, and as much as you would like to be, you are not his mother. I would put him with a matriach mare, one who will put him in his place and can teach him some horsey-respect

  • Re: difference between French Link and others

As the others have said - the Dr B is a VERY harsh bit and is illegal in dressage competition. The French link has a flat middle piece that sits flat on the tongue, the other bits with the 'nut' centre piece are your KK training bits, these bits are good for horses with a high pallett but a lot of horses dont like them as they can hit the roof of the mouth causing discomfort, I have found them to be used on the basis that "....everyone else is using them" as in a fad, beleiving

  • Re: Bonding with a weanling

Putting him out with other weanlings is not such a dumb idea either, he can learn a lot from that too. The best horse and most succesful horse I ever bred was untouched until she was more than 12 months old, and still out with her mother and other mares. If he is halter broke (which he sounds like he is!) and can lead properly hand grazing is no biggie, the most important lessons this youngster can learn is from horse-socialisation, so I would definately look to putting him in with other youngsters
