You know it's cold --when you breath in, and your nose sticks together --when your gloves stick to the gate chain, and pulls them off as you enter\exit corral...

Hey, all, I may need a network of people to seriously help me and my horse, Pride out. Due to the economy, my husband and I are having a real hard time staying above water financial wise, and may look at moving to St. George UT, where we have friends we will be able to stay with until we get back on our feet again. At any rate, these friends welcome all of our pets; horse included, but we need help moving him from Mahtomedi, MN, to St. George, UT. My husband would rather try to sell him, but with

I would never put a young child on a horse under 7 years old...Now I have trained some horses who probably would be okay; like the quarter horse I raised from a foal really was pretty much bomb proof by the time he was 4 years old...but he is an exception, I believe, and the result of daily hands on training from the time he was born, alot of horses don't get as much human handling from the time they are that young. So no, unless it's a horse I know inside and out, because I raised it, I

Give them a giftcard and leave it at that...then they can get what they want. That's what my parents do for us, unless they know what we really want, or need...

I probably spend 60% of my time on the ground with my horse, and that is no joke; yes, I go for long rides somedays, but I focus ALOT of my time with his relationship with me in mind; somedays all I do is go see him, groom him, and take him for a walk...I might longe, or work on something from the ground, but I don't always get on. Sometimes, even if I get on, I might not spend alot of time in the saddle. We might just work on one thing like yielding fore\hind quarters, or simple transitions

I would definitely start with getting a solid "head down" or "head here" cue, as others have pointed out...and practice it alot...you can never have a horse 'too soft'. When beginning to teach him the head down cue while unbridling, simply start by asking him to lower his head for you, but not touching the bridle yet; do this a few times. Then do it again, and undo the throat latch, and put your hand up on his head as if you're gonna take the bridle off, but don't

I hope the owner can figure this out...I don't know the entire story, so I won't try to offer much, except that rearing can be fixed with patience and persistence, like any other behavior issue, it's just the element of 'height' that makes it a more scarey endeavor! good luck with her, and I hope it was just a 'one time' thing!
