Do you do any groundwork with him? Get a book on ground wrok exercises and try them out. This builds trust, respect and communication. Once you've done some groundwork then start rehearsing one rein stops. start by standing still and bending your horses nose form side to side. Then add a little leg ad *** his hindquarters over. This disengages him and makes it nearly impossible for him to run off. Then practice bending his nose and moving his HQ from a walk trot canter(spiral down into a small

Oh just to add start trying to read your horse and see what happens before it happens. for Example before he spooks does he stiffen? Pick up his head? Pr!ck his ears? Get to know your horses little signals that tell you somethings about to go wrong

  • Re: Moving Forward Problems

Where does your saddle sit? Most people have them in the wrong spot and because of that their shoulder blades knock into it. Start out by just feeling where that shoulder blade ends and then pick up a front leg and extend it out(like how you would to make sure the girth won't pinch) then mark where his shoulder is. Do that to both sides and your saddle needs to sit behind that line. You can shim the front of it up with closed cell foam. When you first start doing this check where his shoulders are

  • Re: BARN SOUR!!

Its NOT a dominance thing Its a comfort zone thing. He feels safe by the barn and when he is not near it he is unconfident. Begin riding him away from the barn (With a rope halter and a 12ft lead under his bridle) and as soon as he starts to have anxiety stop get off and play with him a few feet back from where you noticed the Anxiety. Move his hindend, Forhand, Sideways, Longe him (well pretty much just circle around you walk/trot) ect. Gradually work your way to the anxiety area and play there
