Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Vicki said it was "the grown up thing to do", I told her I don't like being grown up. She said, "yes, but you're not Peter Pan".lol I know it was the only thing to do, but it is still depressing. She said I can come and play with her horses anytime, so at least I'm not cut off completely. Thanks again for all of your support, I really appreciate it. :-)

Just wanted to let you guys know that I had to sell Liam. The buyer came and got him yesterday. Long story short, right now I'm very strapped financially, and there was no way out of it for me. In about 8 months or so I should be back in the black, but that didn't help me now. On top of that, the lady at the barn who bought Aislyn is selling her. She is a petite, soft-spoken woman who is too kind. Aislyn is at least 17 hands now, and young, so you can't let things slide with her. Well

Thanks, everyone! Yes, I've been ground driving him, did that with the snaffle first before I tried from the saddle. I will try a French link, see if he goes any better. :-)

Well, you KNOW the answer to this question, you just want the reassurance that it's right. Horses kick the snot out of each other for offenses much smaller than what she is pulling with you. Giving her a GOOD pop across the offending leg with a stock whip (longer than a riding crop, to help keep you out of harms way) will not make her afraid of you, she knows full well why she's getting smacked. One good pop with all the force you can muster is still going to be nowhere near as painful as
Wow, KimW., sounds like you had an awesome time! I take it you managed to come back without buying a horse? And how was the drive back, hmm? (wink-wink-nudge-nudge)
No, I didn't buy any, although if I had had the money I probably would have bought something!lol The ride home was fine, but uneventful...... sorry, nothing juicy to tell you.
Thanks for the photos! How fun! I would have LOVED to go... but I know it's better I do NOT, as I couldn't resists some of the wagons and horses haha! :) Glad you enjoyed it! :) I know YOU didn't buy any, but did any horses come home with "you"? Jessi
The only way you should go is if you leave your check book and credit cards at home, and only bring enough cash to cover your basic expenses.lol Joel bought three horses, one small pony

So, I've started taking dressage lessons, and I've introduced Liam to the snaffle, which he seems to like fine. He's been ridden only in a curb, neck reining of course, up until now. He is fine if the reins are left loose with the snaffle, but starts fussing and doing some head-tossing whenever I try to keep a light contact on his mouth. The problem is that his gaits are very inconsistent, so in order to keep him at an even pace, say in the trot, I have to 'set' the reins in my

Second set of pics..... This is down off the main intersection of Mount Hope.... This is outside the General Store...... These last two are of horses hitched while their owners are perusing the auction...... I had a blast, it's like Christmas for a horse lover.lol I'll write more later, right now I've gotta run- I just wanted to get some pics up.

Hopefully these post okay. We got back Friday night from the big Amish auction in Ohio, the first one I've ever been to. What an eye opener!lol They usually have about 1400 horses go through there, and it was packed with people, too. I really got to see how much chaos, noise, and close quarters that horses can tolerate if they are used to it, and worked on an almost daily basis. Here goes, I'll do these in more than one post...... These were taken in the area where they hitched or rode the
Wow! That is really cool! It's definitely something I would love doing. I've actually never been to a horse auction before -- and how fun would it be to be like that little girl and drive a team of Belgians? What kinds of prices were these horses selling for?
This was my first auction ever, too. These are generally good, usable horses, so you won't find anything that looks like it's on it's last leg. They have two major auctions a year
