  • Re: Ask a Question in Everything Horse and Rider

I tried some breeches but the seam of the reinforced part was awful between my calf and the horse. My legs are short - how can I find something that fits better online or through a store?

  • Re: Okay...don't flame me....

There are a few communication problems such as knowing abbreviations or jargon, whether tech or horse, which are inevitable when different people come together. I really admire all the people who manage to contribute in spite of a language barrier, whether the barrier is lack of english, or a mind that doesn't retain spellings. My brain doesn't retain graphic images well - so I feel like an idiot when I can't identify my horse. Everybody is different. The only advice I have is to be extra careful

  • Re: Dog problem. Advice please...????

I hope the vet can tell you something. Meanwhile you could restrict her to a pen or room where you know she isn't eating anything but kibble. If she still gets sick there, at least you will know more about it.

  • the horse won this time

I had a frustrating lesson. I was nervous because we had a substitute instructor and we were outside where they are building the new indoor arena. They were digging post holes with a back hoe ten feet away from us, and there's no fence, just a row of framing timbers. I've been reading about spooky spring horses getting hurt. Anyway, this horse has been watching the construction all week and he is fine with it, but he has this bouncy trot, and I just can't find my seat. He is real fussy about leg

  • Re: moving up from lessons

Hi I am south of Fairfax city, and I ride down by Lorton. I'm thinking about going out to Middleburg to Fox Chase to look at the Hunter show tomorrow. I know nothing about shows, so it might be a challenge to figure out what is going on. I just hope I don't have to work instead.

  • Re: AAARRRRGGGGHHH *VENT*

My daughter has been riding two years and wants to breed arabians and pomeranians. She will have the fuzziest ponies! But she is only twelve. My plan is to sway her towards becoming a vet and running a rescue, which would be many of the same tasks, but leave her with the possibility of an income and fewer unwanted animals. My husband still thinks she will quit horses for boys one day. So who is naive?

  • Re: Lesson Barn Question

He may need to find a way to be more attractive than the competition to people who don't know enough (yet) to judge a good trainer. Think about features that might attract new riders and at least get them to start. Maybe offer after school transportation from the high school so working parents could send their kids. Or offer a special butt/thigh toning lessons for mature riders. Or a commune with the animal spirit class. Just don't do a wine tasting and horse forum class, because you end up posting

  • Re: If I was to change is registered name...

I may be a noob, but naming that horse Silver has got to be confusing. Let's see - looks like rippling chest muscles to me - How about Arnold's Big Chestnut?

  • jumping problem

Hi. When I jump, I have a problem. I have my position, and my balance, then halfway through, it feels like the saddle comes up to bump my rear, and it pushes me forwards, which is scary for me. I guess I need better balance, but is there a timing or position issue as well? Thanks for helping, Llyvia

  • Re: Creative "ownership" options

I'm getting closer to helping a woman who took on a recovered rescue. She has the time, and now is paying 100%, so if I pay anything, and ride him once a week, we would both be ahead. Now I have to match that with an arrangement for my daughter. She wants to buy, of course, but I keep saying that we cannot even think about it while we can only get to the barn once a week. One step at a time, and the pext step is maybe a 1/7th lease for two horses or something like that, on top of weekly lessons.
