  • Re: parelli horse training

I'm not a fan of Parelli, but had a friend tell me this: Parelli is geared more toward the backyard horseman that wants a relationship with their horse. I've watched her work with her own horses and they do have nice ground manners, mainly because she has taken the time to really work with them and be consistent. However, I have also watched her spend thousands of dollars climbing the levels ladder. She was a level 2 just before he changed it up again. When I talked to her yesterday, she

  • Re: Advice needed- breeder's certificate

I e-mailed the stallion owner again and requested proof of his claim. He responded and told me that he has no proof and told me that the mare owners' know they didn't pay and to contact them. I have their contact information in my horse's file. But if you were the mare owner and some strange person called and asked if you paid for a breeding, would you be offended? What if they paid but can't prove it? Or didn't pay? Do I still have to pay their bill (like the stallion owner said

  • Re: Advice needed- breeder's certificate

I called APHA to find out if there is anything else that I will need. I was told that the dam had never been DNA'd, so I will have to call the DO's to see if they still have her and will DNA. I can find out if they paid or not then. If not, the SO has offered to reduce the balance in half and take payments.

  • Re: Previous owner refuses to release registration papers on free horse

You have the craigslist ad and the e-mail. Contact AQHA and ask what they need to transfer the mare to you in this case. Every registry is a little different about what they will do, but it never hurts to ask. Before this can go any further and this woman can try to reclaim the mare, draw up a bill of sale and have her sign it saying that you took possession of the horse. A bill of sale can sometimes act as a transfer of ownership with breed registries.

  • Advice needed- breeder's certificate

A local university was downsizing its herd a couple of years ago and my mom fell in love with this breeding stock pony mare. I purchased the mare and received her file including the paperwork for APHA registration. The former owner signed the transfer and breeder's certificate (for dam). However, the stallion owner never signed his part. I found out that the stallion owner lives one town over from me so I contacted him to see if I could see the sire and have him sign the papers. He very rudely

  • Re: Advice needed- breeder's certificate

Contacted both associations. APHA says that I can't register the horse without DNA from the dam and the sire owner's signature. I inquired about whether or not they note complaints in a horse's file (i.e. whether or not Mr. Sire Owner has complained to them about non-payment of stud fees). I was told no. That is why they require both signatures. Then they don't have to mediate in a he said she said. They also would not tell me if there were complaints against Mr. Sire Owner from other

  • Re: Farrier Woes

I would definitely be keeping an eye on this guy when he shoes. There is no excuse for having that much gap and shoes cocked funny. He's just being lazy or really has no idea what he is doing (ie. hobby shoer). I'm currently looking for a new farrier, and I will definitely be watching out for one like this guy.

  • Finding a new farrier- how to interview?

I used to board, so I just kept the farrier that the old boarding stable had recommended when I moved my horses home. Well, that guy quit for health reasons and I'm now I need a new farrier. I have been checking the phone books, farrier listings, and AFA websites. I just e-mailed a guy to find out if he comes to my town and what he charges. I have 8 horses that vary in breed and use, including half-arabians and dressage horses. I have been asking about travel and price mainly, with breed specific

  • Dressage boots- help

I was recently given a pair of custom-made dressage boots (donated to my school and I am the only dressage rider there). The boots are my foot size and the correct size for my calf. However, when I tried them on I had a hard time getting my foot past all of the supports in the ankle. There are no zippers in these boots and I was scared that I would get stuck in them, so I gave up at the first sign of resistance. I still managed to get my foot stuck enough in the boot that I nailed myself in the shin

  • Re: Dressage boots- help

I was using boot hooks. I'm relieved to know that they are supposed to be tight. I will try them again this week with a few of my teammates on standby for removal.
