  • Re: sour horses in the manege

This is has happend to me with one of my lesson horse's. I have to ride my consistantly and still let beginners ride her. The horse is probably getting confused by it's rider. Watch their hands , If they are pulling on the right rein when they are making a left turn this is going to make the horse stop and say" hum ok what is she doing to me." My horse gets lazy to and knows how to get out of working with a beginner on her back cause she knows they arent going to smack the crap

  • Re: Working with untrained horse's feet

That is good he has seen a farrier, so you know he can pick up his front. I know it is bad to reward when they aere acting bad, but it worked with my Mustang yesterday first time my farrier has got to do his feet. Get someone else to hold him and each time he picks up a foot for a while give him a apple piece or treat. This will tell him "hey if I let her handle my foot I get some food" It worked well with mine. I would do this after you get him somewhat used to the rope idea I mentioned

  • Re: Working with untrained horse's feet

My first question is.. Has his feet ever been done by a farrier? Cause if he has I am sure he can not be to bad about his feet. I was taught this by a trainer take one of the long lead ropes. go to the inside of the leg and lope it around the leg let it drop down to where you ask to pick it up and pull it up. do it over and over on front feet , for the back you can do the same ,but stay up next to front shoulder1. this keeps you at a safe distance 2. if he doesn't like it he can put his weight

  • Re: How far can a three old go?

Most people think it is smart to wait till they are four, but keeping the jump under the 2 foot mark would be my suggestion. Wrap his legs for the protection. As for a 3 yr old my tip would be to de-spook him. I am in 4H as well and we can choose how high we jump so for a while you can jump smaller for him. I would get him vet checked and ask the vets opinion. Good luck!

  • Re: posting

Basically you just have to remember to keep your hands there. You said when you are steering into a turn is where you are having a issue. You should be pulling your hand out a bit to guide the horse in the turn. Is the horse you are riding do leg yeilds/ pressure? If he/she does. This will be the thing you can do to help guide them and be able to keep your hands in the correct position. How long have you been taking lessons? If you are still simi- begginer I would say it is okay for you to still

  • Re: Critiquing Baby

Dont worry about the height, I have a 10 hand donkey and I test rode her to make sure she would ride.. She carried me around like she did it forever. If you plan on riding her in Hunter the only thing is you need to make sure your foot falls in the correct spot, but if your just wanting a horse to ride for fun then you should be fine. good luck! and lets us know if ya get her.

  • Re: scar tissue

yeah it can be just scare tissue, but if it is really swollen ,I would get a vet to check it cause horse's can need a tetanus shot. If the fence was rusty or there is a splinter etc. the area could be infected.

  • 4th day with quest

Well he is not failing me one bit. He was a gentlemen on Friday. He lunged like a pro. The only thing was he played stupid when it came to yoyo then the trainer arrives and he is like oh... he is here I guess I better do what she says. He was rode for about 10 mins. He rode him around in the pasture. Quest acted like he did it all the time. He was being rode in a rope halter too. He was calm and didn't spook at a thing. It's pretty hard to spook him, I have come to conclude. Which I will

  • Re: I want horse # 1384 and 1388

I got my BLM Mustang for my 15th birthday, best present I have ever gotten. They are beautiful horses. It takes ALOT of work. I would recommend a foal. Mine was rounded up as a youngster, but he still remembers it, he is very skittish of people in hats I got him used to mine , but if a man in a cowboy hat walks up he is ready to get away from him. The one thing that scares me to death is I was told by this guy that he had one and it just dropped dead in its tracks. It was around 2 yrs old. Maybe
