Just short update - I'm madly in love with our stallion Daggy - he is suuuuch a gentleman! I was so worried to adopt a stallion but now... I will breed for his temperament and rideability! Just one example - our mare Sigma is coming on heat - and by mistake she was put tonight in the opposite box to stallion - our isle is narrow so basically horses can reach each other. Sigma instantly turned her back to Daggy and Daggy of course noticed that. He was sweetly drooling all over her but that was

I had a rescue, gelding , 14 yo gray, about 16 h. He has not very well known past but he is definitely the proper gelding. When he was here, at our barn, he always had become a bit bossy when mares were on heat, but he was on complete stall ret so notghing I was suspecting. In May he was adopted out to a family who has 2 mares and a gelding. At his new home the gelding's behaviour is very nice except one thing - there is a big mare, open, and when she is on heat, he is ... hm, how to explainn

Hi! Flaxeed oil is the right thing. It is pricey in comparison with other oils but the best by my opinion. I do not know what do you mean with equine ready form. Oil is oil - any oil, suitable for human consumption, is also OK for horses. The only thing - the refined is not as good as natural, cloudy ones but usually they are labelled organic, "natural" and so on - thus more expensive. The best thing- to contact farmstore wholesaler and order a gallon jar or something - it will be 10X cheaper

Sorry, can not give any advice regarding blanketing and your temps - I'm in North East of Europe, where temps drop down to -20C and even lower, but I do not blanket my horses at all. They do have solid stone stable, and on bad days (when it is not only really cold but also windy)I just keep them inside. They all have thick furry coats already (I do have WB) so mine are ready for winter. I'm considering only blanketing my 17 yo stallion (also a neglect case) - due to his age he is not recovering

I'm not an expert, but if you added horses 3 days ago,by my opinion it is about the time to increase hay gradually up to free choice, especially if they are out in pastures all day long and can move around freely. I would be careful by increasing amount of pellets, for sure, but hay by my opinion, is not dangerous. I would definitely ask vet for a specific vitamins/supplements for mare in foal to help her in the best possible way. And how about small amounts of oil - laxseed oil is the best in

Stinging nettles is also into my herbal load as they are very good source of iron, easy to get. About picky eaters- you know, most of the horses like mint so try out adding small amounts of mint to his food - if he likes it, you are into herbal teas. I make a tea, with a lot of mint in it (so smells really nice) and thn add everything that said horse needs. That tee I just put in any food that they are having and nobody had refused to eat. :)

Just some stallion update. Today one of our boarders - 5 yo mare - went on heat. Stallion went restless and seemed that he is starting considering about jumping fences. As there is no breeding plans we decided that it would be safer to put the stallion inside, in his box. Peter went in the field, attached lead to the halter and simply took the stallion home.Stallion was talkative but that was all - we have a true gentleman here who is able to control himself with humans even when hormones hit brains

Solaris, they do suffer everywhere, regulated breeding or not. You know, our latest addition, Lilly (http://forum.equisearch.com/forums/t/39531.aspx?PageIndex=14) has suuuuch a pedigree, to die for.. but she has roach back. And now I had been digging and digging, and found people who had seen her and pictured as a baby - not roach back at all then. For me it makes things better from one point - no worries that it is inheritable (roach back is inheritable) but at the same time - there must be a medical

You know, it will change gradually anyway - 15 years ago here people were snorting here about horse passports - now they are fine, now they do snort about microchipping but again - soon it will be over and done, I'm sure. With US more than with Europe there is that democracy thing. I read a lot discussions about regulated breeding and people were crying that it would restrict their freedom. I know, individual freedom is really a value of US but so many things of this freedom were already taken

I'm silly PROUD mum today! :D Look at this! Who it is? It is son of my stallion, Dandy. Here is a small video with Dandy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3RDA_Ho3l8 And this? Boy on the right is his brother, Dilando. So today I met two boys from my stallion, and both earned ribbons. Am I proud or what? :D :D :D Oh, yes, the boy on the right (red ribbon) is son of my mare Inka. 2 more ribbons he earned today... I'm not a breeder, I had not raised then, had not trained them and saw these boys
