  • Re: How do you Teach a Reluctant Horse to Cross Water?

Ride with an experienced friend who has a horse that can take the lead across the water. We have been working on water crossings, and I have found a couple of good horses to help us practice!

  • What foliage is harmful to horse?

I live in Central Ohio and I have a nice fenced in area at home. I want to bring my horse to my house for a day to hang out and let him graze and play with the dog. We have maple, dogwood, oak, black walnut, and wild cherry trees. There aren't leaves dropping off the trees or anything like that, but could any of these be harmful if he ate the leaves??? Thanks for your replies... also , if you can tell me what harm could occur to the horse, I'd appreciate it.

  • Re: prayers needed

Update: She is going to be OK. It was NOT the horse stepping on her that split her open, it was the saddle horn when the horse came crashing down on her. Her head was uninjured. Don't know if she was wearing a helmet or not.

  • Re: Do You Trail Ride Alone?

See "Need Prayers" post in the General Discussion forum. I know a lot of you ride alone, but you can't use the phone if you are knocked out.... or worse. Be careful.

  • prayers needed

A woman from the barn where I board was injured seriously yesterday. The horse fell on top of her and then stepped on her and tore her stomach wide open while getting up; Collapsed lung as well as multiple blood clots in her lung. She regained consciouseness today, but she is in very bad shape. She is a very experienced rider which really makes it unsettling. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers if you are one who prays. Thanks.

  • How to condition your horse for the trail

I ride quite a bit, just about daily, but would like to get into more challenging and longer (overnight) rides this summer. My horse is young, 8 years and in great shape for what we do with him. Should I do anything in particular to condition him for longer and tougher rides? There is a group I just joined that goes out on day rides and some weekend rides and I want to be able to hang with them. Do I really have to go out of my way to get him in better shape? The rides will be slow, but the terrain

  • paprika for palomino color

I looked through old posts about enhancing the golden color of palominos by giving the horse paprika. Some say it's dangerous for the horse's system and others say it's fine. Does anyone know what the real story is on this? If it's OK to give, then how much should be given per feeding to help with the color? Thanks!!
