  • Re: Need help with horses behavior

I go with some of what has been said. I would like to add that any horse that is only ridden in an arena or round pen does get bored. Are you afraid she will buck or what if you go out of the pen? When you feed her don't give her feed till she gives you a positive look. I have a horse that laid his ears back and slung his head as if demanding for feed. I blocked the feed from him. Then he responded by putting his ears up as if whats going on? It took more than one time but when I feed him now

  • Re: Mean horses...

He isn't the newest horse in the pasture he is just aggressive and acts like a spoiled man. I had to throw that in. LOL! Has to get his way. When I was walking behind him I wasn't close up because I don't trust his aggression for lack of a better word. I personally think this might boil down to ground work. I need to do more and show him he isn't in control and he isn't running anything. He was in a seperate pasture with my mules but I wanted to have all my animals get along so

  • Re: English Saddles

One thing I would like to add to what has been said is make sure your buying the right size. The shape or length of stirrups don't matter if the saddle is not your size. If your not sure about english saddles you should talk to whoever will be teaching you to do dressage etc for sizing and style. I think close contact is the cheapest as far as price. Good Luck!

  • Re: you'll probably think I'm crazy

I am more on the not happening side. If someone could talk to a horse or totally understand animals then why wouldn't we have people shown that can train a totally wild horse in no time because of their ability. People can read animals body movement to get an understanding of them. Like The Dog Whisperer or like The Horse Whisperer. They understand animals because they have learned to read them. I'd be impressed if someone could tell me what my horse is thinking cause she is nuts! I'd

  • Mean horses...

What do you do about a mean horse? How do you make them stop? I have a gelding that bullies all his pasture mates. They don't even stay close to him when grazing. They want nothing to do with him. When I feed him he starts acting impatient and attacks other horses that come anywhere around. Then he tries to control 2 buckets by walking back and forth. When you ride him he acts fine. He listens and just acts curious of other horses when their around. He lifts his legs while he eats also. At first

  • Re: What's he worth?

Horses in Texas are going for nothing. I went to an auction and there was a very nice registered lineback dun and they sold him for $600. The reason I say this is because all areas are different. Yearlings go for under $100. Check around your area.

  • Re: Trampled hay

I would also say to try one of those round bale holders. Put your barrels inside of it. Another idea is to buy those panels with square holes in it. I have a manger that does feed and hay. They don't make a mess with those cause the part where the feed goes catches the hay that falls out. You could make one as well though I'm sure if your good at building stuff. I found a website that shows feeding bunks like I'm talking about. http://www.behlencountry.com/cattle/feeders/specialty_feed_bunks

  • Re: Monthly cost of keeping a horse

I have 9 horses and mules. Its $1,000 a month in feed and hay. I own my land so no boarding fee's. I do my own trimming as well so that saves A LOT! I just gave all them shots and it was $200 for all of them. You can look online to get all your vaccinations. Coggins test for me is $20 per horse. Rabies shot is like $10 I wanna say. You worming depends on how often and what you use. Its around $15 every time. Ferriers around my area are $75 for shoes and about $35 for a trim. All cost totally

  • Re: Getting a 2-year-old to accept your leg.

2 is young but its your horse and your gonna do what you wanna do. However at 2 all you should be doing is walking and ground work. When you are riding and your cueing her to walk you have to make sure to do everything the same. Voice wise. Then it wouldn't be a bad idea to have someone lunge the horse while you are on her. Her balance is off with you on her. She has to learn to cope with it. Another thing is get a friend on a broke horse thst she likes and ride around the pasture together so

  • Re: My Abused Horse Update/New Problem....

A boy about 17 told me the horses history of hurting 2 guys cause they tried things they thought would work but didn't. Along with him being about 250lbs under weight. Seeing scars across his poll. When I first got him he was spooking at everything that moved. More so with rope and fast moving things. Then him backing up when you put your foot up like your getting on. He will snort and back up or go sideways to get away from my leg. So that makes me believe that someone kicked him in the side
