  • Re: Breaking the tail???

I've actually heard of show horses having their tails broken to prevent the swishing of the tail that some horses do while being ridden (either out of habit or because the horse is irritated) not cool if you ask me. And isn't there something called nerve blocking that they do to the western pleasure horses so they can't move their tails?

  • Re: My Poor Pony.... What should I do?

Even though my filly isn't stalled all the time I have an Uncle Jimmy's Hanging Ball hung up in her stall to help with boredom when the horses are in during crappy weather. She loves hers! It's made out of compressed sweet feed, molasses etc and comes in flavors like carrot and apple. You hang it far enough off any walls that they can't push it against one and they can't really get a hold of it. One will usually last my filly for about 3-4 months. The only draw back is after she

  • Re: Does anyone feed free choice loose salt or minerals? How do you do it?

I have a Himalayan Rock salt lick in my filly's stall. I got it from Smart Pak, but I've seen it in other horse supply catalogs as well. It has minerals and is super hard so the horse can't bite clumps off of it. I got a medium sized one for about $19.95 and the thing has lasted for 8 months now.........she's just slowly licked it down.

  • Re: BLM Mustang Adoption - future adoptions

I adopted a yearling BLM filly although it was back in '94.........I don't know about internet adoption. But she turned out to be the best little mare!!! You just need to go slow and easy, patience is definately the key! It took me about 6 weeks to really gain her trust and be able to handle her( I'm sure many people could do it faster but I did what I could do) but once I did I could do anything with her. One thing about Savannah is that she tended to be a one person horse, she was pretty

  • Re: Do You Trail Ride Alone?

I used to Trail ride alone all the time when I had my gelding Pete, he had no problem with it (some horses are more herd bound etc) and I never thought twice about it. That was 12 years ago and of course I'm a bit older now (just a little ) but I still think I will once I get my filly ready. I love the peace and solitude of it! Taking the cell is always a good idea provided you can get a signal!
