Thanks everyone for the comments but once again I will state this is highly hypothetical, I just wanted opinions and I am very aware of the cost in breeding/raising/training young horses. I also know that are are so many unwanted horses in the country and that there are many young horses available. Thanks for the site but I have also read-up and done a lot of research on the gene/color - I am very aware that it may not be possible to pass the gene on but I would still love to have a little version

I have been leasing a Trakehner X TB mare for some time and may be purchasing her at the end of the summer, she is 13 years old and is making huge progressions in her training and handling everyday. She is by Prince of Prussia (by Carino approved ATA, AWR, CTHS, CSHA and CWHBA) a BRINDLE bay and she is registered ATA and CTA, which makes me motivated to pass on her genes as well. (just love to see what color the foal is). She has great movement and her siblings all have been very successful dressage

Thank you, and I think you may have misunderstood what I was writing. We are very aware of the feed change risk... She has never been changed before and we are doing it extremely slowly. She also Can Not, go outside for very long. I meant 12 noon (forgo tto add that so she hardly lasts more than a few hours outside. We would never be able to turn her out on pasture and are not at a facility were that would be a logical idea. Just yesterday (while where protective turnout boots and bell boots) we

Sorry, I don't want to seem like I'm not listening to your advice, I do agree with what you said. She does have a turnout or run-out situation (depends on which stall she is in) and is now in a morning turnout only due to the fact that she has panic attacks if she's outside after 12. We have tried everything to keep her outside later but unless she's in a runout will not stay out longer and she CANNOT be out with other horses. The selenium levels are in check, she always has access

Thanks, I think I will start to gradually lower her grain amount to see if that helps at all. She is VERY colic-prone so after we (barn manager + I) talked we thought it was best to keep her on the same grain for now and just lower the amount to see if that was the problem. Then if we needed to make a change we could VERY slowly change it.

Wow, I feel like I've just been hit with the "anvil"! I lease a Trakehner/Tb mare who is 13 years old and has been on Strategy for as long as we know. And what a typical "physco mare" we used to joke and blame it on her being brindle! But now it seems it might be her grain. She only gets 1/4 scoop but she is almost always tense, short-strided, cranky or moody - she does have her "amazing" days but they are rare in the broad outlook. I don't think her grain has
