How does your keep-a-horse-sound strategy compare to the 11points outlined in Horse & Rider’sApril 2009 soundness article by Barb Crabbe, DVM? Her article covers theseheadings:

1. Proper, timely footcare.

2. Daily checks.

3. Proper weight.

4. Careful conditioning.

5. Warm up, cool down.

6. Watch the torque (don’t go overboard on small circles,etc.)

7. Good footing.

8. Safe, plentiful turnout.

9. Protective measures.

10. Dietary supplements.

11. Alternative therapies.

Is there anything on this list that you particularly swearby? Anything else you’d add to the list? We’d love to get your thoughts.

Desperately seeking "Zara"

I saw the ad in the new Horse & Rider magazine, and rang the mobile number, but it is switched off.

I think I used to own Zara and could give heaps of info on her in her youth.

If anyone knows who has her now, please get them to turn their phone on as I have texted!

It would be great to talk to her new owner - she was an amazing horse and I owe her a great deal :-)

#4 - I am serious about conditioning my horses and I am following Back in the Game from Feb 2009 issue. Even though I do not Barrel Race, I do want my horses fit. This seemed like a very good program. So far it has been just awesome!

My dreams for our retirement. Hopefully, in a two years, we'll be able to put in a 3-acre pond behind our home. Stock it with Black Crappie & Yellow Perch/Bluegill.

Shortly after that, build a small cabin in the mountains above the pond. Appreciate the serene beauty of our mountains, as we plan for our cattle drive vacation.
