Summer Horseback Riding Lessons

Looking for something fun to do this summer? The University of Connecticut is providing horse riding lessons. Polo, Hunt Seat and Western lessons are open to students, adults and children (age 11 and older). Beginner to Advanced levels will be offered. There will be (4) 3 week sessions during the summer; $210 to $315.00 per session.

In addition to riding lessons, UConn will offer Trail Riding for the Intermediate or higher level rider, Session l June 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, and 18, Session ll July 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, and 23. Riders must be 13 years of age or older. The rider may choose English or Western style. Ride the UConn trail system and learn best practices trail riding including how to follow markings. Lessons will be held in the Horsebarn Hill Arena, UConn, Storrs, CT. The first riding session starts 5/11. Registrants are urged to register quickly, as classes fill fast. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Maximum of eight riders per lesson. Horse show fever!

The snow finally melted enough that I was able to go for a decent ride today, but it won't last for long. Here in the great northern mountains of California it tends to give us just a breath of spring in January, then bury us under several feet of fresh snow!

All this to say I can't wait for show season!

I can't wait to catch up with old horse show friends, and see if all my winter training will have an affect. I'm tired of having to dress so warm it's hard to move, and I could really do without the cold weather spooking! I would also like to ride a horse again and not a woolly mammoth!

Now that it's the new year, I feel like we're coming down home stretch, but it still feels such a long way off. Anyone else feel the same?

With 52 years of success using his simple “Ride Like You Walk” system of riding, Baron von Uhl can fix or markedly improve virtually any problem almost immediately. The “Ride Like You Walk” system has worked so well since 1956, that B. von Uhl makes the following claim:

ALL LESSONS ARE UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED:
RIDER MUST BE SATISFIED WITH THE LESSON OR NEED NOT PAY

You can be sure that no matter who you may have ridden under or watched train, anywhere, you will have never seen such quick, easy and clearly explained techniques! You won't hear any "Dressage euphemisms" like "through" or "rounder" or "more impulsion" ... if the rider rides correctly and lets the horse "be a horse", the horse will take care of supporting, framing and impelling all by him/herself! It's what horses do by themselves in the wild without a rider on their backs! Learn the definition of the Half-Halt. Learn how to make a horse light and sensitive enough to be able to do an entire Grand Prix test without a bridle!! You really have to see these lessons to believe them. TUITION: Clinic tuition is $75/lesson (~1 hr) - group lesson rates are adjusted
AUDITING:Auditing is $35/day - if you take a lesson, auditing is included and highly recommended; video-recording is permitted and also recommended for future review
ARENA: lessons will be in a covered regulation short (i.e. 40m) arena with excellent footing. This arena is designed to remain at least 10-15 degrees cooler regardless of outside temperature. A full-sized (60m) uncovered arena is also available. A full jump course is available for jumping lessons.
STALLING: stalls available for $10/day or $25/night, incl. shavings + water bucket

Private lessons may be available - $100./ hr @ your facility by arrangement.

A lot of very effective information and technique is given during each ride, so videotaping of each lesson is advised, if possible. This will allow you to review and study your lesson afterwards.
