To measure for a girth, put the saddle and pads you intend to use on the horse, then witha tape measure, under the belly jsut behind the front legs were the girth will go, measure fro the right billets to the left billets adding a little so it will reach the first or second holes on each side. You want...

Thanks for the advice. The tack shops I normally go to have very little selection when it comes to leathers. And they tend to be the $100 variety. I've been looking online (especially eBay) for the best price/quality combo - which is why I was asking about matching the color; it's hard to tell...

Does it matter if I buy a brand of stirrup leathers that isn't the same brand of saddle? If I buy a different brand, how do I make sure they match the shade of the saddle? I have a Crosby close contact saddle and would like to replace the stirrup leathers. It's been difficult for me to find Crosby...

I clean and condition my saddle regularly with Lexol, but it feels dry. I've oiled it once and my instructor said that you only need to do that once a year. The driest spot seems to be where the stirrup leathers touch the saddle. Should I use saddle soap?

Well I chose neither. I have been using a rope hackamore on my girl and found some reins made with the same yahting rope in brown to match the headstall. I like the feel of them, it is what I am used to, so I went that route. Thanks for reading my question though! Emma

Hi Everyone, I am getting a coming 3 year old Appendix filly vetted (YAY!) and was wondering if anyone had thoughts or opinions on the Pessoa Lunging System? Has anyone here used it? I feel like it would be a much better option than just a surcingle and side reins, as it helps the horse understand how...

I'm trying to buy a dee ring slow twist copper bit, but can't find one anywhere. I've tried Dover, State Line, Bit of Britain, and the Winners Circle. All I can find is a slow twist dee ring, a full cheek slow twist copper, and a loose ring slow twist copper. Does anyone know where I can...

Hi - I love my Bitless Bridle! My mare hated bits, and so did I - didn't want to use them. A mild hackamore was okay, but when I'd put it on her, she looked so odd, head would go down, as if she felt she was "submitting" to such a contraption. I bought the nylon bitless - less expensive...

I have a used Crosby saddle that has a crack on the side of the seat. When I bought it two years ago, I don't remember it having a crack. It's jagged (so it's not a cut) and measures about 2-3 inches. Does it need to get repaired? And if so, how do I find a place to do that? And how much...

I have a wonderful Crosby Mark IV close contact saddle I bought used about 3 years ago. I love it and it fits my horse very well. Unfortunately, it has developed cracks along the seams of the seat. I took it to my local tack shop and they told me to continue to clean it and oil on a regular basis so...
